Introduction

We are based at Ladbrooks School.
Our school is a full primary in a rural area just outside Christchurch.
We are an enthusiastic learning community of Year 3-5 children and two teachers, Ali and Jo.
We love to learn and enjoy having fun.
Thanks for following us on our learning adventures...

Metaphor poem

TLC Metaphor poem

We are fish and chips because when we come together we are all great.
We are broccoli because we are good and healthy.
We are spaghetti because we are all mixed up together.
We are breakfast because we are ready to start the day.
We are an icecream; super sweet.
We are breakfast cereal because there are lots of us all together.
We are a hamburger, we are all squished together.
We are camo clothing, we are great at hiding and love being outside.

We are a pair of high heels because we stand tall.
We are a jumpsuit because we like having fun.
We are plain clothes; we are ready for anything.
We are a rainbow t-shirt, we are bright, funky and cool.
We are a jacket, we fit together.
We are wool to knit our ideas together.

We are concrete, we mix together.
We are a library; we are making history.

We are the sky tower standing strong and tall.
We are a radio because sometimes we are loud!
We are a bee hive because we live in colonies.
The class is a hospital because we care for each other.
We are a university because we learn fast.
We are a skyscraper because we want our learning to reach the limits.

We are a run down car that doesn’t want to work; it’s tired.
We are monster trucks because we are crazy sometimes.
We are a silver fern, pretty with lots of parts.
TLC is a bus; it fits lots of people.
The class is a face car because we’re fast.
We are a native tree, we belong here.
We are a horse and carriage; we are slow at what we are supposed to do sometimes.
Our class is a bendy bus; we are up and down and a little bit weird.
We are a boom box; loud, noisy and sometimes crazy.
We are a kahikatea tree because we stretch our minds.

Emotive Writing

My heart was running away from me, I couldn’t catch up with it.  I heard a loud growl behind me.  Shadows fell on the ground.  I got creeped out.  We started sprinting away.  I fell!  Please let  me stay alive…

Ella and Josh

My heart was pounding, we were walking in the bushes and suddenly we heard a faint grumbling noise.  Why did it have to be this way and why did have to be us?  We were picking up pace and shivering with fear.  The noise was getting louder and louder.

Daniel A and Matilda

My heart was pounding.  The roar was getting louder and louder.  I was sprinting through the dark damp forest.  It was spooky.  We needed to find shelter.  I had goose bumps all over my body.  Suddenly…

Mac and George H

I was lying on a deserted island.  After that I dug a hole, my jaw dropped.  I fainted.  When I came to I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Testing tinfoil titanic boats

We added weights to our boats and counted them to see which boat could hold the most.
Charlotte and Matilda were the best boat designers.

Testing rivets

So we have discovered that scientists believe that faulty rivets may have contributed to the speedy sinking of the titanic.  This was the first rivet test, using carrot rivets.  Hilarious and scientific.
